The Bureau of Elections is responsible for providing accurate and up-to-date information to voters, Election Day preparations and the processing of mail-in and absentee ballots.
The Bureau of Elections is located on the 2nd floor of the Colfax County Building, Clerk's Office, 230 North 3rd Street. Raton, NM 87740.

WHEREAS, the Board of Education, as governing board (the “Board”) of Maxwell Municipal School District, County of Colfax, State of New Mexico (the “District”), has determined, and does hereby determine, upon its own initiative to submit to an election the question regarding the issuance of general obligation bonds in the maximum amounts and for the purposes hereinafter specified at a Special Election on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, in accordance with Sections 1-16-2 (B), 1-16-3(C), NMSA 1978, Sections 1-22-1 et seq., (Local Election Act) Sections 1-24-1 et seq. Absentee Voting
Absentee voting (by mail) for all county and state elections may be done by requesting an Absentee Ballot Application (pdf) from the Bureau of Elections. Complete and return the application to the Bureau of Elections and a ballot will be mailed. The time to apply for an absentee ballot varies from election to election, but it is generally 28 days prior to a Primary, General or Local Election. Contact the Bureau of Elections for further details. You may also fill out a request online at Online Absentee Request.
Early In-Person Voting
In-person voting is done at the Colfax County Building, Clerks Office, It begins 28 days prior to a Primary, General or Local Election and ends the Saturday before the election. It is held during regular business hours Monday through Thursday.
Same Day Registration is available at the County Clerk's office beginning 28 days prior to an election, as well as all early voting sites within the County. Voter must have a Colfax County residential address in order to register. Be prepared to show a picture ID, as well as proof of residency such as a utility statement, bank statement, etc.
Early Voting Sites
Early voting at an alternate voting site is available for Primary and General elections.
Please be advised there will not be Same Day Registration at the Mobile Voting sites is not available for the 2022 General Election.
The hours of Early Voting are Monday through Saturday, 10am-4pm.
